Monday afternoon and I am reflecting on an interesting weekend that just took place.
We started out Friday night at the old Rimels that is now Cali Native just north of San Diego. A few minor changes to the place but for the most part it was the same vibe. Not great, but not bad. Had a few Tito’s and sodas and some apps. I would highly suggest the fried avocado, pretty darn good. Lot’s of competition coming to the Cali Native with One Paseo opening soon.
Rainy Saturday morning started with a 3 mile hike and then of to meet the World’s Fittest Man, Joe Decker, for some mimosas and cigars. Wanted to go to Werewolf in the Gaslamp by the line was out the door so we settled on Bub’s by the Ballpark, which is always a good time. I did not eat there but had a few glasses of cheap mimosas then onto Joe’s roof top deck for an Arturo Fuente Short Story cigar. If you like cigars and have not had one, I feel these are the perfect size, flavor and strength. Are their pricier options yes and there are definitely better, but if you have 45 minutes to kill and want a cigar, the short story could be your new go to.
Headed home around three to walk the dogs and get ready for the Pine Mountain Logs at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. First, had to get a bottle of tequila to celebrate a friends promotion. Kim and I settled on Dos Artes Blanco. We brought some chocolate to pair with it, which went over great. At $100 a bottle, Dos Artes is definitely not a shooting or margarita tequila. It is so smooth that you really want to sip it so you can actually enjoy the flavors of this expensive Tequila.
On to the Belly Up to watch the much hyped Pine Mountain Logs. They were very good at covering all the hits ranging many different decades. I am not a big cover band guy, unless Weezer is doing the covers. They were entertaining.
Back to my buddies for one more sip of Dos Artes then home to bed. I was hurting all day Sunday. Oh well it was fun.
Heading to Band of Horses on Wednesday night, let you know how it goes.
Peace
